Outlining the aproximate former location of the Comatillo Basin. It is now the Cordilleras Septentrional sitting right where the Caribbean and North America geographically meet. The Oligocene-Miocene limestone is especially amber-rich in these parts, although there are of course other areas in the Caribbean where amber is found. This is also a seismic hotspot because it is here that the Caribbean and North American Plate rub each other the wrong way.
